The French title of the picture, Prelude de Nina, refers to N. Dalayrac's opera, Nina ou la Folle par amour, which in 1786 was staged in Paris with great success. This circumstance permits the picture to be dated 1786. It was reproduced in dotted print by A. Chapponier.
