Oil on canvas. 131 X 97 cm. Inv. No 3334 Signed and dated lower right: H. Rousseau 1909 The models for the picture were the poet Guillaume Apollinaire and the artist Marie Laurencin. A variant (146 X 97), now in the Kunstmuseum in Basle, was also painted in 1909. The Pushkin Museum picture was bought by Apollinaire from the artist for 300 francs.

Rousseau repeatedly painted the Montsouris Park.
Most of his landscapes with this motif date from about 1895. In all probability, the Moscow picture relates to the same period.
