OF THE SEINE (VILLAGE ON THE BANK OF THE OISE). 1868 Oil on panel. 37 X 66 cm. Inv. No 881 Signed and dated lower left: Daubigny 1868 A comparison with a landscape in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (No 30.95.275), almost identical in composition and dated the same year, 1868, justifies the changing of the picture's traditional title, Village on the Bank of the Oise. The Pushkin Museum painting actually depicts the village of Portejoie on the Seine. A preliminary drawing for the picture made in sanguine is in The Louvre. The name of the village has been established by Moreau-Nelaton.
